creativelibrarian.com

The Creative Librarian is a hub for matters important to librarians/information scientists of today. There is a definite lean towards electronic issues, however it isn’t restricted to only those. Hopefully this site will also be useful for informing non-librarians on these issues as so many of them affect us all.

New Look

I’ve put up a long over-due redesign. I like the simpler look. The most interesting thing is that it’s coded with HTML5 based on the free Wordpress theme.
HTML5 is the next version of the hypertext markup language (HTML). HTML5 brings a lot of useful changes to website coding, including more meaningful markup. For instance [...]

Where did I go?

I’ve made it a point to keep my personal life off of this blog but I feel anyone still reading needs an explanation. To sum up: in the summer of 2006, my mom and both my grandmothers had cancer. My mom died in August. My grandfather died of the same cancer that killed my mom [...]

Life Trumps Blogging

I thought I owed you guys an explanation for why I haven’t been really posting lately. Life hates me.
No, seriously.
First I got a roomate. Then the new apartment manager gives me a hard time because she has 3 cats even though the old apartment manager okayed it.
Then I found out that my mom has [...]

Something New

I received not one but two interesting emails recently in response to posts I’ve written. I’m taking it as a sign that I’m growing as a blogger to the point where readers may actually want to talk back to me. So I’m opening comments here. We’ll see how it goes.

Creative Librarian is back

I’ve got the database sorted out. It’s not accurate but at least it’s not showing 300 posts on one day!
I’ve gone ahead and changed some things.

The archive lists are now on one page.
The mobile version of the site is still at the same place though.
My contact form has also moved.
The biggest change [...]

Still Screaming

I’ve finally got the site switched over to Wordpress.
I’ve planned on moving away from MovableType for a while, I was just waiting on WP to add a couple of more features so I could minimize the disruption here. So when there was a disruption with no easy fix, I took the opportunity to go [...]

Pardon Me

… while I scream. I updated to MT 3 and my database was corrupted. All attempts to fix the problem failed. I am now in the process of installing Wordpress. The data has been imported and attempts to fix are succeeding. Still, this is going to take a while.

New Look

If you’re reading this in a newsreader, you might want to switch to a browser to see the new design. I haven’t done anything to the underlying structure. Just polished the visuals and changed the right bar a bit. Hopefully it will be easier to browse as well as prettier. If you have any comments, [...]

At it again

I’ve added two new categories, “Open Access” and “Career Info”, and moved some entries over to them from the Library Links page. For accessability reasons, I’m trying to keep that section from becoming a “catch all”. Links to the old versions in the original category should still work for quite a while.

Mobile Edition

Now There’s a mobile version of the Creative Librarian. I’ve use a MT-specific script to create dynamic versions of the index and entry pages rather than duplicate the entire site with stripped-down templates. The script was very easy to implement and adapt.

Full Feed Available

Do to a request, I’ve added another XML feed with the full contents of my posts. It’s available up at the top under the imaginative name of “Full XML”. The original will stay with the excerpts because that’s my personal preference but hopefully this way everyone will be happy.

Welcome

There isn’t much here yet because the site is still under construction but I have a lot of ideas I hope to get up quickly once the design is finalized.
So far, I’m planning on sections for:

copyright issues
useful web resources
and a Google searching tutorial

I expect much more to be added in time. If you have [...]
